New Season in Dota 2 Adds Optional MMR Reset, Updates Dota Plus and Guilds

Today begins the new fall season in Dota 2, which will run through the beginning of this December. This season the players’ rating will not reset automatically – instead, players can do it voluntarily. The update also includes changes to Dota Plus and Shards system, as well as changes to the Guilds.

While earlier Valve planned to reset everyone’s MMR every 6 months, they decided to abandon this idea since simultaneous general reset has a lot of negative aspects. Their new approach is to allow players to reset their MMR on demand – to prevent everyone from doing it at the same time, start-times have been split into random time periods between October 22nd and November 22nd. The feature is available in Settings – Account – MMR Recalibration.

With the recent conclusion of Battle Pass, it is a good time to update Dota Plus. The developers have added new seasonal quests, which will allow players to earn around 58,000 additional shards. The subscribers now can use the new Role Assistant hero grid arrangement, which automatically places heroes in different categories based on the latest trends. Moreover, some of the Battle Pass features, such as the Chat Wheel sound effects, pull timers when holding ALT, and post-game healing and gold breakdowns, are now also available for Dota Plus users.

From now on, all players will be able to gain Shards, which earlier were exclusive to Dota Plus subscribers. There are a few ways to obtain the shards, including leveling heroes up to level 5, receiving tips, and completing weekly quests. While most items in the Shard Shop are now available for everyone, the seasonal treasure, chat wheel sound effects and hero relics remain Dota Plus exclusive.

The Guilds system has also been updated. The guild level system was removed and replaced by a regional weekly leaderboard. Depending on the guild’s place in the leaderboard, its members will receive different rewards and perks. From now on all players can participate in a guild, however they can be created only by Dota Plus subscribers.
